Consumer Unit (Fuseboard) Change

What is a Consumer Unit?

Often referred to as the fuse box, a consumer unit is the central hub of your home’s electrical system. It houses the circuits that power various electrical devices in your home, including sockets, lights, immersion heaters (if you have one), ovens, hobs, smoke alarms, electric vehicle chargers, and outdoor electrical equipment. Its primary role is to ensure safety by protecting you from electrical hazards such as shocks, burns, or even fires in the event of a fault.

When Should You Replace Your Consumer Unit?

It’s recommended that electrical systems be inspected every 10 years, or every 5 years if the property is a rental. If you're moving into a new home, it’s a great time to evaluate whether the consumer unit is still providing the necessary protection and working effectively.
