PAT (Portable Appliance Testing)

According to the Health and safety at work act 1974, Employers and Employees must take responsibility for all people working and visiting a workplace.

PAT, short for "Portable Appliance Testing," refers to the process of inspecting electrical appliances that are equipped with a plug and are reasonably portable or movable. Employers are responsible for demonstrating that they are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of their employees during everyday work. Since electricity can pose significant hazards, and appliances may become damaged or wear out over time, regular testing helps reduce the risk of electric shock.

What is a PAT test?

During a PAT test, An engineer will do a visual inspection of an appliance, checking for any signs of potential damage that could lead to an electrical shock, once a visual inspection is complete, an engineer will plug the appliance into the PAT tester, which checks that the appliance casing is earthed, and that no internal wiring is damaged
